Being a freshmen at a new school can be very intimidating. Attending my first Exploring Your Digital Portfolio class was unlike what I was expecting. I had began the class later than everyone else because I had to revise my schedule. Not knowing what a digital portfolio class would be about was a little nerve racking. From digital footprints to programming a micro bit, I have learned so much. We have been prepared for the day that we go out into the real world and get a real job. Although this class started out intimidating for me, it has turned out to be my favorite class this semester. Every day was a new topic that was intriguing to learn about. We had to read three different books, lol OMG, Untangling the Web, and Light, Bright and Polite. My favorite book to read was lol OMG. I feel that this was very important for people going into college. It taught me how to acknowledge what should and shouldn't be posted on social media. It also provided some questions to think of before pressing post. Light, Bright and Polite I vaguely remember, but it did have some important messages. Untangling the Web was my least favorite by far. There were to many screenshots of websites, and it was very confusing to read overall. Another topic that I really enjoyed were the Tweets. Tweeting multiple times a week was a little challenging in the beginning because you have to come up with your own thoughts, but as you continue to do them it gets much easier. It was nice to be able to professionally interact with others in our desired fields. We also had a variety of projects throughout the semester. Some were small PowerPoints, where we had to learn how to use a website and create presentations. We did one for our majors, about our school, and for Halloween. Along with these small projects, we did one research project that took a lot of time and effort. We had to find someone in our desired field who got fired for something they posted on social media. Along with this research, we had to right a 5 page paper and create a presentation to discuss in front of the class what we had found. App smack downs were another project we did. First, we had to find an app on our phones or a website that related to our major, and had to teach the class about it for two minutes. This was a way to teach us how to get comfortable public speaking for a short amount of time. I would highly recommend this class to anyone because there are some important skills that we learned that you do not learn in any other class.
